I learned about Nitrotini from my cinematographer and producer during our stay in Charleston for a video commercial project I was working on. How convenient was it that we were staying at the posh Market Pavilion Hotel, the home of this deliciously amusing cocktail. We decided to try it after a hard day’s work.

It wasn’t crowded at the bar. My cinematographer, producer and I were taking our time to look at the Nitrotni menu consisting of 33 Nitrotini creations, ha! We were a bit overwhelmed at the selection I guess. It took us a while to decide what to get.

So, what exactly is a Nitrotini? A Nitrotini is Charleston's only cocktail infused with liquid nitrogen, cooled at -320F.

We placed our orders and started watching the bartender make our drinks. It was quite amusing. She was literally scooping liquid nitrogen and putting it into our drinks, ha! Quite entertaining to watch. Then one by one, our drinks came. Our drinks did not only come with liquid nitrogen, it also came with a warning sticker wrapped around the glass:

“Liquid nitrogen is served at -320°fahrenheit. Nitrotinis should be given the same respect as fire. Avoid Rapid Ingestion of any Nitrotini! Before consuming the Nitrotini please allow a minimum of 3 minutes. Wait for the cloud-like Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) to completely dissipate or evaporate entirely. Do not attempt to inhale the water vapor during dissipation, as it may disrupt the balanced ratio of nitrogen to oxygen gas in the air that you breathe. Failure to follow this warning in its entirety may result in severe burns, permanent internal organ damage and other detrimental health problems. Please enjoy safely and responsibly.”

Of course my eyes lit up! I thought to myself “How cool is this?! You have to wait for f*cking 3 minutes before you drink it! Otherwise, you’ll basically die.” We were entertained by this whole thing.

We tried a few of the Nitrotinis – different flavors, different colors… sweet, spicy, fruity, sexy, and so on. You have enough options, whatever suits your flavor.

Overall Verdict: Deliciously amusing indeed.
