Destination Sunshine Village Banff: Pretty in Snow White
Beautiful view of picturesque Canadian Rockies – like a winter wonderland.
The first time I visited Lake Louise in Alberta Canada few years ago was when I realized just how much I am drawn to mountains. You would think that being an island girl, I would be drawn to the beaches. That is not the case at all. I do like the beach okay, but I guess I have seen too much of it.
Canadian and the US rockies are a sight to behold – stretching from British Columbia & Alberta Canada to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado in United States. Unforgettable sights of wildlife, hiking trails and lakes surrounding these rockies could easily captivate you no matter what the season is. The most ideal time to visit the rockies would be in spring or summer time. But you wouldn’t want to miss the sight of these rockies in winter as well. They are as beautiful and breathtaking in winter. Plus, knowing how to ski could even make the trip more fun. In my case, I don’t know how to ski, but I have managed to enjoy the beautiful sight of winter wonderland from the top.
I met with Jesse and Boniffer to visit Sunshine Village in Banff. It’s a ski resort in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, sitting high on the Continental Divide in the heart of Banff National Park. It features more than 3,000 acres of ski terrain – offering slopes from beginners to extreme mountain runs for ski experts. But worry not if you don’t know how to ski! You could still enjoy the sight of the rockies covered in pretty white snow by riding the gondola lift. The gondola lift ride takes about a good 15 minutes. The sight of the mountains covered in snow is just simply stunning. It brought out the kid in me, made me feel like a little girl enjoying Christmas!
Lots of snowboarders and skiers of different ages for sure. I saw little kids learning to ski, and they are the cutest snow bunnies.
They have cafe and restaurants in the property. We took a break for a cup or two of apple cider at the Mad Trapper’s Smokehouse. We also checked out the gift shop for some souvenirs. I bought gloves and a beanie. I love beanies, especially the one with balls. The bigger the ball is, the better for me. Ha!
We later grabbed late lunch at the Chimney Corner Fireside Dining. The place is quite lovely. They have huge windows that would allow for you to enjoy the mountain views while dining. They have huge fireplaces inside and stone interior that make this restaurant quite warm and cozy to dine in. Food was about average to good. Nothing special. Only the view.
My ultimate goal for this trip was to see the scenic rockies covered in snow. The best part is, I didn’t have to ski to see it. Mission accomplished!
